my uncle tom (an expat himself) forwarded this item from a democrats abroad newsletter:
funny how tyranny repeats itself. of the abuses detailed in the declaration of independence, how many do you think apply today? for a start,
“he has refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good;
“he has obstructed the administration of justice;
“he has made judges dependent on his will alone;
“for depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of trial by jury;
“for transporting us beyond seas to be tried for pretended offences . . .”
of course july 4 / independence day is just a holiday where americans watch fireworks and eat potato salad and get a much-deserved day off, but it’s hard to celebrate with the sad state of the nation, isn’t it?
